Maris Martinsons

Who Is Maris Martinsons?

Coach. Competitor. Realist.
A straight-talking transformation coach who’s lived every side of the fitness journey, from broken to built.

Born and raised in Latvia, Maris broke national powerlifting records as a junior and went on to win multiple bodybuilding shows, including at national level.


But behind the trophies was someone completely lost.

For years, he battled depression, weekends of drugs and alcohol, and a toxic cycle of emotional eating, super strict during the week, then binging until he was sick. He lived alone in a tiny, outdated flat, doing a job he hated, surrounded by people who drained every bit of energy from him.

He’s been skinny. He’s been overweight. He’s had three chins and zero confidence.


He’s tried every restrictive diet imaginable, and every single one left him miserable.

Diagnosed with ADHD, introverted, and socially anxious, even talking to strangers in the gym felt impossible. But that’s exactly where everything started to change.

One day, after finishing work on his business, Laurence received a message from his doctor: “ Hey Laurence, your test results are back, and we need to talk ASAP”.

He found out that he has an early stage of type-2 diabetes, raised cholesterol, and very high blood pleasure.

Spending years setting up different businesses work always come as a priority, but health and fitness take a back seat.

He ignored it because that’s “Just the reality of life for a busy person. You don’t have hours every day to work out and cook.”

After some time of ignoring his health, he paid the ultimate price with a health scare.

Laurence started to think there must be a way to get healthier. He made a firm decision to ditch the belief that he could not get in shape just because he was busy.

So he decided to join the gym.

Like most people at the start of the fitness journey, he was clueless about what to do, so the only thing he did was treadmill as he had no confidence to do any resistance training.

That’s why he reached out after my help.

Instead of doing hours of cardio, we built a training program that was adapted for his busy schedule and fit for his body type and needs.

We build a flexible diet approach to which Laurence is confident and can stick to long-term, regardless of whether he is at home having a meal with family or on a business trip.

When Barclay joined the Metabolic Breakthrough program, he wanted to get in the best shape of his life.

But he felt worried that working with someone online would not work for him.

At the time, he was working with a gym floor personal trainer, but he wasn't getting the desired results.

We chatted on that first call, and it seemed like he was really on the fence about signing up.

I could see he wanted it.

And eventually, he could start to see how this could work for him.

He didn’t allow those limiting beliefs to dictate his decisions.

And despite feeling unsure about not seeing me face to face.

…which is totally reasonable…

Badge Of Honour.

“Honestly, I thought I needed to be beasted to get to where I wanted to be.”

It’s like a badge of honour, isn’t it?

How much of a mess can you be in after exercising.

Lying there in a pool of sweat, unable to function for the rest of the day.

Wondering around like a zombie from the walking dead.

FitBit exploded on your wrist, left a smoking, charred tangle of wires.

Some people love this way of training, and that’s fine too.

But you don’t have to train like that.

You can still get mega results with exercise being just part of your life… not the whole thing.

Paulis came to us after trying all sorts of workouts, even a bit of CrossFit.

Which is a fantastic sport, by the way, for the right people.

He believed he had to beast himself into getting results, all he ended up doing was getting more tired as the months wore on.

To the point where he was starting to dislike exercise altogether.

For him, the turning point was being asked if he was still going to the gym.

He knew then that he’d been putting all this hard work in and gotten nowhere.

Being a man who prided himself on doing things correctly, this felt like a direct attack on his personality.

He knew things needed to change.

We knew he certainly had the work ethic to get results.

All he needed was to scale back the exercising and have a structure that facilitated reasonable progression over time.

He actually stayed the same weight over the 12 weeks.

HOWEVER, he felt tighter than ever, lost 3.5” on his waist, and had arms that would now fill out his t-shirt.

He loves that his arms have grown. I mean, what man doesn’t want bigger arms, lol?

It also showed him he didn’t need a beasting to get fantastic results.
